    Developer of the Month – Free the Apps!

    Our featured developer of the month is Free the Apps!. Free The Apps! is an independent application developer for the iPhone and Android platforms. They’ve created several Top 10 Overall apps in the iTunes App Store including Crop for Free, Flash for Free, Convert Units for Free, and several other Top 25 apps within the Photography and Utility categories. We spoke with co-founders Mike Moon and Quoc Bui and got the inside scoop.

    · When was Free the Apps founded?
    Free the Apps! was started by two twenty-something year old best friends in San Diego, CA with nothing but a couple of Macbooks and an iPhone in the summer of 2009.

    · What inspired your company to develop apps and get into this space initially?
    We noticed there was a lack of quality free apps, so we started with one goal in mind: To bring the quality of paid apps to users for free.

    · What is your company background in mobile?
    We are your typical “garage startup” and have released over 20 applications for the Apple App Store and the Android Market. We are engineers by trade but have hired a team of experienced developers to help us create our apps and deliver them to our users. We have had over 18 million downloads in our first year!

    · How big is your team?
    We are a team of two but we’ve utilized the power of outsourcing to work with many very talented professionals. We outsource all aspects of our business from development to graphic design.

    · How is your company funded?
    Ad revenue!

    · What advice do you have for other developers?
    Execute! It’s all about actually getting out there and doing it. Having an idea and actually creating something are two completely different things. Getting started is probably the hardest part, so get started! “Ideas are cheap and plentiful. The original pitch idea is such a small part of a business that it’s almost negligible.     · Why did you choose to work with Greystripe?
    We know Greystripe is one of the leading rich-media mobile advertising networks out there right now and their level of service on both the business and technical side has been outstanding. They have a bunch of premium advertisers in their network and the quality of ad inventory they possess is top-notch.
